Public Records Act Requests

The City of Willows is committed to transparency and open government. In accordance with the California Public Records Act (Government Code section 7920.000 et seq.), members of the public have the right to request access to public records maintained by the City, except for records that are exempt from disclosure under state law.

How to Submit a Public Records Act Request

Public Records Act (PRA) requests should be submitted in writing and should reasonably describe the records being requested so the City can identify and locate them. Submitting your request in writing is encouraged to help ensure clarity and timely processing.

Please complete the PRA Request Form and submit by any the following methods:

• In Person: Requests may be submitted at City Hall during regular business hours

Response Time

Upon receipt of a Public Records Act request, the City will respond within 10 calendar days, as required by law, to determine whether the request seeks copies of disclosable public records. The City may extend this time by an additional 14 calendar days in certain circumstances, as permitted by the Public Records Act.

Availability of Records

Many City records are available for public inspection during normal business hours. Copies of records may be provided upon request. Records may be provided electronically when available and feasable.

Fees

There is no fee to inspect public records. Fees may be charged for copies of records to cover the direct cost of duplication, in accordance with state law.

Exemptions

Certain records or portions of records may be exempt from disclosure under the California Public Records Act or other applicable laws. When records are withheld or redacted, the City will cite the applicable legal exemption.
